The Gardens & Kitchen Garden at Puy Robin
The guiding principle is simple, take care of the land, and the land will take care of the plants.
At Puy Robin, great care is taken to maintain the natural health and fertility of the soil. Chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides are avoided wherever possible, allowing the soil, plants and wildlife to develop naturally.
We are trying to introduced a minimal-digging approach, combined with the use of homemade organic compost made from materials gathered from the kitchen and gardens.
This helps to:
The aim is to create a garden that works with nature rather than against it.
The kitchen garden is an important part of life at Puy Robin. We tries to grow as many organic vegetables, herbs and fruits as possible, providing fresh, healthy produce for the kitchen.
Growing food on the property also means following the seasons and making the most of what the land naturally provides throughout the year.
Wildlife is an essential part of the gardens. Rather than trying to remove insects, we encourages a wide variety of insects and other beneficial creatures to live among the plants. Pollinating insects play an especially important role, helping vegetables, fruit trees and flowering plants to thrive. The gardens are therefore not simply a place to grow food, they are a living ecosystem where soil, plants, insects and people all have a part to play.
At Puy Robin, gardening is about patience, observation and working alongside nature.
It is a simple approach, but one that reflects our belief that looking after the land today helps ensure that it continues to produce and flourish for years to come.
